There’s A 'Godzilla' Easter Egg In The New 'Star Wars' Movie

‘Rogue One’ director Gareth Edwards teases the sneaky scene

The true monsters of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are, of course, the leaders of the Empire. But when the film hits theaters this month, you can also keep an eye out for some artistic monsters hiding in the background.

Rogue One director Gareth Edwards recently stopped by The Star Wars Show to hype up the film (as if it needed any more hype; this is Star Wars after all). He revealed that, during a scene in the cave home of Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), there are a couple Easter Eggs that tie into his first two films: 2010’s low-budget Monsters and 2014’s blockbuster Godzilla.

“In Saw’s cave, there are some cave paintings. One of them is of the creatures that were in my first film, called Monsters, and then there’s a Godzilla,” Edwards revealed. “I didn’t ask for it, they just did it as a joke. I came in one day and spotted it in the middle of a take.”

So there you have it: that’s probably the closest we’ll ever get to the Star Wars/Godzilla crossover that absolutely no one on the planet has ever asked for.

There’s no telling just how noticeable the crafty designs will be on the big screen, but we’ll find out when Rogue One hits theaters on December 16.
