'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 First Look Images Are All About The Starks (Except For Bran)

Winter is here, and so are the Starks

The gods, both Old and New, have gifted us with the first official look at Game of Thrones Season 7, and as per usual, these images are frustratingly cryptic. But that won't stop us from speculating, of course.

On Sunday night, HBO aired a "Coming in 2017" preview before the penultimate episode of Westworld, and the promo featured three blink-and-you'll-miss-them shots of the Starks in action in the anticipated seventh season of the fantasy epic. (The video isn't online yet, but Watchers on the Wall managed to screenshot the images.) We see Sansa — and Sophie Turner's new Catelyn Stark–inspired wig — standing in the godswoods, gazing into the camera; Arya is seen on horseback in the North, mercifully freed from Braavos and staring off into the distance; and finally, there's Jon Snow, looking every bit as broody as we remember him, in conversation with what looks to be a redhead (probably Sansa) at Winterfell.

While we'll most likely have to wait until the summer to find out what — or who — Sansa is staring at, we have a few early suggestions. Could this be the Stark Sister reunion we've been waiting for? We know Arya is on her way to Winterfell, and it would be fitting that the first person she encounters is Sansa in the godswoods. Or might Sansa be in the middle of a quiet moment of reflection? Her father Ned often came to the godswoods to think, and there's no image more synonymous with the North than the red leaves of the weirwood. Of course, there's also the possibility that Sansa is gazing at Ramsay Bolton's severed head on a pike, but it's rather unlikely that the hounds had any leftovers.

Call us crazy or sentimental, but seeing Arya Stark of Winterfell in the North (or what looks like the North), donning her finest winter furs, is perhaps the most exciting Season 7 development. For many seasons, we watched the young wolf trapped in a boring Braavos storyline that did nothing but go in circles. Now, it's time for Arya to take back what is rightfully hers — and hopefully reunite with her family along the way.

And then there's Good Ol' Reliable Jon Snow, who looks as burdened as ever in the forthcoming season. Now that Jon and Sansa have reclaimed the North — and Jon's inherited the title of King in the North — what's the next step in their plan for total domination? It's not like they can just waltz into King's Landing and go head-to-head with the Lannisters. Unless, of course, they had a powerful ally ... say, one with dragons.

Regardless of what happens in Season 7, these images have us officially on edge — and seriously missing Bran Stark. WTF, HBO? Stop sleeping on Bran! He's just as important as Jon. (No, that's not a joke.)
