Barb From 'Stranger Things' Shares Heartbreaking Self-Harm Message

But it’s also hopeful

Shannon Purser, the actress behind Stranger Things’ Barb Holland who will portray Ethel Muggs in the upcoming Riverdale series, shared a poignant message for fans battling with self-injury on Twitter Monday (November 7).

“I haven’t self-harmed in years, but I kept this around, ‘just in case,’” Purser tweeted, revealing her own experience with mental illness. “I forgot it was there and now it’s in the trash.”

“Recovery is possible,” she continued. “Please don’t give up on yourself.”

Her honest tweets inspired an outpouring of support from fans, some of whom fought the same demons in their past and present.

Purser’s always kept it real with her followers, letting them know they’re not alone in their struggles. “Please don’t ever feel like your depression is invalid because of your life circumstances,” she tweeted last month. “Depression does not discriminate.”
