Emma Watson Hides Books Around The Subway Like A Real-Life Hermione

Some light reading for your commute

London fans are getting an extra-special treat from Emma Watson this week. The Beauty and the Beast star is hiding books around the London Underground subway system, which sounds exactly like something Hermione Granger would do. (Remember when she hid socks around Hogwarts to free the house-elves?)

Watson is distributing copies of Mom & Me & Mom, Maya Angelou’s final autobiography before her death in 2014. It’s the monthly read for Watson’s feminist book club, Our Shared Shelf. For this feat, Watson also partnered with Books On The Underground, an organization of “book fairies” that leave novels around for bored commuters.

Other books Watson has recommended include Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, Maggie Nelson’s The Argonauts, Gloria Steinem’s My Life on the Road, and more. So even if you aren’t a lucky Londoner traveling through the Underground anytime soon, you can still participate in Watson’s club by visiting a bookstore. Happy reading, everyone! And remember this friendly reminder from your favorite bushy-haired Gryffindor: “Books! And cleverness! There are more important things — friendship and bravery.”
