Almost four months after Christina Grimmie’s untimely death, the YouTube community is making sure her stunning voice and beautiful spirit aren’t forgotten.
Grimmie, who was killed during a fan meet and greet in June, received a gorgeous tribute at last night’s internet video–honoring Streamy Awards. Fellow YouTuber Shane Dawson took the stage for a tearful speech during which he told the crowd, “[Grimmie] didn’t start because of money or fame, she started because she wanted people to connect with her music. Her dream was to have one of her songs be someone’s favorite song.”
Dawson continued, “Her music will forever continue to make people feel accepted and not judged and not alone. Thank you, Christina, for every beautiful moment, and thank you for every beautiful song.”
YouTube stars Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider then performed a medley of Grimmie’s most memorable original songs and covers, as a slideshow of photos played on a screen behind them. The emotional tribute concluded with a video of Grimmie singing her own ballad “With Love.”
Grimmie’s Streamy Awards salute comes after both the Emmys and the Teen Choice Awards faced backlash from fans for not honoring the late singer. Finally, she’s gotten the tribute she deserves.
