Green Day’s New Song ‘Still Breathing’ Is A Triumphant Ode To Survival

Billie Joe Armstrong nods to surviving addiction on the band’s latest track

It's still September, so Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is still sleeping. But he has checked in to reassure us all that he is only sleeping, not dead.

On Green Day's latest single, the California band lets politics take a back seat and instead pays tribute to simple survival.

"Still Breathing" harkens back to classic Green Day tunes, but with a new perspective that nods to Armstrong's recent struggles with addiction. "I'm like a junkie tying off for the last time," he sings, "but I'm still breathing."

Just surviving whatever life throws at you is pretty punk rock.
