Did Hailee Steinfeld’s ‘The Edge Of Seventeen’ Just Become The Next Great Teen Movie?

Nadine’s totally joining the teen-icon ranks of Ferris Bueller, Angela Chase, and more

The Edge of Seventeen screened at TIFF on September 16, and Twitter was abuzz with comparisons to a bunch of adored rom-coms and cult classics shortly afterwards. Audiences at TIFF agreed, and walked out of the theater putting Nadine on the same pedestal as the lead characters in a bunch of cult classics. The Edge of Seventeen is up there with Say Anything, the 1989 rom-com that gave us the immortal scene of John Cusack hoisting a boombox above his head and blasting Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" for his gal:

It not only brings out some melancholy vibes akin to those of Palo Alto, the cinematic adaptation of a collection of James Franco's short stories, but features someone from one of the best teen drama series out there, Dawson's Creek:

Speaking of teen dramas: Nadine and Angela Chase? Totally cut from the same flannel cloth.

The highest compliment you can give to a movie about teen love is that it's "Hughes-ian" — and that has nothing to do with this writer's bias, duh.

Basically, all of Toronto feels like this now:

The Edge of Seventeen hits theaters November 18. And be sure to check out our Instagram as Hailee herself will be taking over our Instagram stories on September 17.
