Ariana Grande brought out Nicki Minaj for “Side to Side” at the 2016 VMAs, but it turns out she’s more than capable of performing the whole song on her own, raps and all.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (September 8), Grande teamed up with The Roots for a live take on her sexy dub single. And when Minaj’s verse rolled around, Grande didn’t hesitate to lay down those bars herself.

But just because Nicki wasn’t there doesn’t mean she wasn’t watching. The rapper applauded Grande’s flow on Twitter as soon as the performance aired.

Grande also used her airtime to announce the first batch of dates on her Dangerous Woman tour, which kicks off early next year. In a few months, she’ll give us plenty of opportunities to see her show off her rap skills IRL.
