Fetty Wap’s New Song Reflects On His Life Before ‘Trap Queen’

Life is so ‘different now’ for Fetty

As far as “breakout stars” go in hip-hop, Fetty Wap is one of the most recent artists to irrefutably earn the title. A lot’s changed for the 25-year-old since he dropped his massive debut album last year, and those changes are the driving force behind his latest single, “Different Now.”

Produced by heavy-hitters Vinylz and Frank Dukes, the track debuted Thursday night during a Facebook Live chat with Fetty and his fans. It’s a classic “rags to riches” narrative, propelled by a throbbing beat and Fetty’s singsong flow. ”Oh my god, it’s so different now, yeah / How they used to hate me now they love me now, yeah / I remember days of wearin’ hand-me-downs, yeah / Got it out the mud, they understand me now,” he raps, reminiscing on the days before fame, fortune, and “Trap Queen.”

No word yet on why the “Different Now” single art shows Fetty with two pupils (he famously has a blank left eye), or whether the song will appear on his upcoming sophomore album, due this winter. In the meantime, you can get your fill of Fetty on Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood.
