Taraji P. Henson Is A NASA Pioneer In Inspiring First 'Hidden Figures' Trailer

Females are strong as hell in the first ‘Hidden Figures’ trailer

Just in case you need your daily dose of inspiration, the first trailer for Hidden Figures — the incredible real-life story of three brilliant African-American women whose work was instrumental in launching John Glenn into orbit in 1962 — is here to brighten your day and pluck on those heartstrings.

Based on the untold true stories of Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), Hidden Figures follows them as they overcome both gender and racial prejudices to revolutionize the NASA space program and help launch the first man into space. The trailer, which debuted during NBC’s Olympics coverage on Sunday night, is a splendid mix of humor and emotional gravitas, especially from its three female leads. Perhaps even more inspiring than their stories are their legacies; a film like this will undoubtedly encourage a whole new generation of young girls to pursue STEM fields — and that’s a beautiful thing.

In addition to its fabulous leads, Hidden Figures also stars Kevin Costner as the head of the NASA space program, Kirsten Dunst as another NASA employee, and Scream Queens breakout Glen Powell as charismatic space pioneer John Glenn.

Hidden Figures opens in theaters on January 13, 2017.
