Here's When 'Game Of Thrones' Returns For Its Shortest Season Yet

HBO is testing your patience

Grab your coat, because it's gonna be a long winter before Game of Thrones returns for a seventh season. Rumors have been floating about a delayed release, and HBO confirmed the sucky news Monday. The hit series is expected to air in summer 2017 — several months after its usual April premiere.

"Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing,” HBO president Casey Bloys said in a press release. “Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”

The delay means GoT won't qualify for the 2017 Emmys, despite snagging 23 nominations this year. And there's more bad news: Season seven will only be seven episodes long. 😱

Womp, womp. On the bright side, maybe George R.R. Martin's The Winds of Winter will be done by then! A girl can dream, right?
