Jaime Lannister's Idea For A 'Game Of Thrones' Spin-Off Is So Good, It Needs To Happen

Just imagine 'Friends' starring Jaime and Brienne

With Game of Thrones careening toward the finish line, someone at HBO should probably start thinking of a contingency plan. George R.R. Martin has already stated that he's been in talks with the network about possibly developing a prequel series based on his Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. And while that's all well and good, there has to be a way for us to keep up with our favorite Westeros residents for years to come. Enter Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's genius idea for a Jaime-Brienne spin-off.

Speaking with the New York Times, Coster-Waldau pitched his idea for a sitcom starring Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth, tentatively called The Heartslayer.

"It has to have a laugh track," the Danish actor said. "Then I would do it in a heartbeat." It sounds like something we would watch in a heartbeat. Jaime and Brienne, two of the most duty-bound characters on the show, just trying to get by in their tiny apartment in Oldtown. It would be like Friends, only more interesting.

"When [Jaime and Brienne] spent that long journey together back to King's Landing and learned to trust each other, I think that was the first time Jaime ever spent time with a grown woman other than his sister," Coster-Waldau said. "She represents the best parts of me and clearly there’s a love and an attraction, but it’s an impossible scenario. They're both dedicated to other people’s needs. And I don't think they'll ever be able to put themselves first."

Which is exactly why they need a sitcom! Picture this: Brienne has to have an awkward conversation with Jaime about Cersei sleeping over all the time and drinking Brienne's wine. [Cue laugh track.] There could even be an entire episode dedicated to Jaime discovering Pod's magic dick and sulking over this newfound information. Oh, and think of what a fun supporting character Bronn could be! He would be around for the sole purpose of humiliating Jaime.

Alternatively, Coster-Waldau also has a suggestion for next season's bottle episode. "I thought we'd have a season where we just did the whole thing in a cabaret," he said. "Varys would be the owner of the club, because I know Conleth Hill would be amazing at that. And we'd all come in and do little things."

Yes, I do believe that sounds marvelous.
