Tyler Hoechlin's Teen Wolf alter ego was known for keeping Beacon Hills' inhabitants safe. And now, the man behind lone lycanthrope Derek Hale is about to protect ordinary small-screen folks in a brand-new land (aka National City): The actor is joining the CW program Supergirl in the legendary role of Superman.

“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says, according to Entertainment Weekly. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

All together now: It's a bird, it's a plane...it's Superman!
