11 Disney Actors Returning To TV For The 2016-2017 Season
With all the hints and teases we've been getting this week, it's clear this will be quite a season for television. From reboots to revivals to spin-offs, it seems TV wants to expand successful stories and attract a new generation of followers — and these 11 former Disney stars are gonna help make it happen.
Whether these actors were on a TV series not too long ago (hi, Ashley Tisdale) or they've been absent from our screens for years (*cough* Cole Sprouse *cough*), we're so pumped to see them in action on these new shows.
Cole Sprouse, Riverdale
The CW's Archie comics-based series will mark The Suite Life of Zack and Cody star's return to acting after taking a break to attend college at NYU. Sprouse will play Jughead Jones, so naturally he dyed his hair black for the role.
Vanessa Hudgens, Powerless
The High School Musical actress is an insurance adjuster who's sick and tired of superheroes wreaking havoc on her city. The NBC series will be part of the DC Universe.
Camille Guaty, The Exorcist
Based on William Blatty's 1971 novel — and subsequently, the hit 1973 film — Gotta Kick It Up star Guaty is listed as part of the cast for this Fox series, though it's currently unclear if she is a guest star, recurring, or main character. However, she has tweeted about the show, so here's hoping we get to see her weekly.
Taylor Handley, A.P.B.
The hottie from The Phantom of the Megaplex stars on this Fox series as an officer in the Chicago Police Department who helps a billionaire solve a loved one's murder, while simultaneously rethinking the way they've cracked cases in the past.
Jared Padalecki, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
Zachary Gray from A Ring of Endless Light will reprise his role as Dean Forester for one episode of the Gilmore Girls revival, which premieres on Netflix sometime this year.
Miley Cyrus, The Voice and Untitled Woody Allen Project
Besides joining the new season of The Voice as a coach, the Hannah Montana star will also star on an Amazon series set in the 1960s — which means her long blonde locks are back (in wig-form, that is). Currently, IMDb states the show will premiere sometime later this year.
Shawn Ashmore, Conviction
The Cadet Kelly bae plays ADA Sam and works with a team — including Peggy Carter, a.k.a. Hayley Atwell — that investigates cases involving people who might have been wrongly convicted on this ABC series.
Riley Smith, Frequency
Dean Talon from Motocrossed is Frank Sullivan, a detective who died in 1996 but can mysteriously communicate with his daughter in 2016 via a ham radio on this CW series.
Ashley Tisdale, Young & Hungry Spinoff
The High School Musical and Suite Life actress reprises her role as Logan Rawlings from Emily Osment's Young & Hungry, getting her own series on Freeform.
Bobb'e J. Thompson, Clash of the Vampires
Pesky Stanley from That's So Raven is currently slated to act in one episode of this 2017 Netflix series alongside Zachary Williams from Nickelodeon's Romeo! It's unclear if this is just a guest-starring role or the start of a recurring one.
Brenda Song, Pure Genius
The Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior and Suite Life star will play Angie on the CBS series where a Silicon Valley tech billionaire constructs a hospital that's only used for treating the biggest medical mysteries.
