Justin Timberlake Gets In On The ‘It’s Gonna Be May’ Joke

Guess what...?

It’s that time of year again, folks. Flowers are blooming, April showers are subsiding, school’s getting less and less bearable, and it can all only mean one thing: It’s gonna be May.

On the internet, the arrival of the new month means the rampant circulation of that Justin Timberlake meme. You know the one: a photo of curly-haired JT smiling way too wide, accompanied by the caption “It’s gonna be May.” The tagline plays off a lyric in NSYNC’s 2000 hit “It’s Gonna Be Me,” when Timberlake sings the titular lyric like so:

In an interesting twist to this year’s meme season, Timberlake himself has gotten in on the joke (albeit two days early) with a cheeky tweet of his own.

The answer, Justin, is yes -- you can meme yourself. And if you need any inspiration, a handful of brands have jumped the gun as well.

Giphy hit him right back with an epic response.

A pair of ET Canada television hosts played along.

Even WWE couldn’t resist an early celebration.

But the real question is, will President Obama get in on the action again? He did back in 2014, when he shared a photo of him and Timberlake that was captioned by the infamous lyric. As his last May in office, it seems only appropriate that he’d resurrect the joke one last time. But he’ll probably wait until April 30 like most meme-abiding citizens.
