Bow Down To Emily Blunt, Our Greatest Action Hero

Blunt's most badass moments

Emily Blunt is a certified badass. Thanks to her various action movie roles, she probably knows how to break a person multiple ways (in multiple places) without spilling one drop of blood. She also has range: she spat the sickest burns this side of the sun in The Devil Wears Prada, gave us an eerie chill we can't seem to shake in the very mysterious Girl on a Train trailer, and she also perfected her battle-ready sun salutations alongside Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow.

In honor of her latest kickass role as Ice Queen Freya in The Huntsman: Winter's War -- she rides a polar bear! -- let's a look back Blunt's most badass moments.

Edge of Tomorrow

Perhaps the most surprising thing about Edge of Tomorrow -- apart from the movie’s great sense of humor -- is how it cedes many of its badass moments to Blunt and not its leading man Tom Cruise.

Sicario

Sicario

In Sicario, Blunt portrayed an idealistic FBI agent enlisted by an elite government task force official to aid in the accelerating war on drugs -- and she turned out one of the most honest performances of the year. Kate was Sicario's most believable character, balancing defiance and vulnerability, physicality and emotion seamlessly. Better yet, a male was nearly cast in the role. Blunt: 1; Patriarchy: 0.

Looper

In this sci-fi thriller starring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Blunt was a scene-stealer as Sara, the ex-city girl starting life anew on a farm with her young son. TBH, she had us at, "If you show your face here again, I will cut you the fuck in half!" Swoon.

Cannes

Emily Blunt 5

It's a little-known fact about the Cannes Film Festival that all screenings have a dress code in effect. And it’s not your basic "no shirt, no shoes, no service" agreement: Written into the rules is a clause stating that women are required to wear high heels to all Cannes events, or be denied entry. (Boooo.)

Queen Blunt was quick to call out the prestigious festival for its sexist rule when a reporter mentioned to her that women were being turned away from screenings for failing to sport heels. "I think everyone should wear flats, to be honest," she said. "We shouldn’t wear high heels anymore. That’s just my point of view. I prefer to wear Converse sneakers. That’s very disappointing." 👏👏👏

Blunt isn't just a badass on-screen; She's a hero IRL too.
