Game Honors Prince With New Track 'Rest In Purple'

The L.A. rapper wasted no time recording his thoughts

The musical tributes for Prince, who died on Thursday at 57, are undoubtedly going to pour in during the days, weeks, and months to come. One of the first came late last night, with Game's tribute "Rest in Purple."

On the solemn track, the Los Angeles native recalls watching Purple Rain, considers the late musical legend's influence, and contemplates his own mortality.

On Instagram, Game explained his reason for recording the song: "@Prince was such a huge inspiration to my life from a child watching #PurpleRain til the time I met him at Universal Music in 2006.... I was a fan then & I am a fan now ! His death was untimely & tragic... I'm sure the world is saddened as I was when I woke up to the news today.... Long story short, @bongobytheway hit me & told me stop by the studio & record a small tribute to him & his legacy & once I heard the beat, I hit @LorineChia to do the hook..... Hope you appreciate it...."
