MTV’s New Shows Will Make Your Uncle Shut Up About How We Don’t Play Music Anymore

Weekly series Wonderland joins an MTV Unplugged revival and more this fall

Beginning this fall, an onslaught of new music programming is coming to MTV.

A fresh new weekly music show called Wonderland will showcase the best in new music through live performances. Each week, three different acts will take the “stage” -- really a living, breathing space in Los Angeles -- along with today’s emerging talents in comedy. Developed in partnership with Comedy Central and hosted by musicians and comedians themselves, Wonderland is the first show of its kind that MTV has put on the air in nearly two decades.

And that’s just the beginning.

Television producer Mark Burnett, the mastermind behind juggernaut reality-contest shows The Voice, Survivor, and Celebrity Apprentice, will executive produce a new hip-hop music competition series. The end game? Getting tomorrow’s top talent in front of the industry’s top dogs -- and then getting them signed and into the recording studio.

But you can’t put the “M” back in MTV without MTV Unplugged.

Yes, the iconic, stripped-down series -- which helped cement the legendary status of acts like Nirvana in the ’90s and Jay Z in the early 2000s -- is poised for a return this fall as well. The new MTV Unplugged will keep the essential feel of the original series while modernizing to fit the way we watch videos today across multiple platforms.

MTV is returning to its music roots. Stay tuned for more info about the next wave of programming coming your way later in 2016.
