A 10-Year-Old Wrote This Powerful Poem About Living With Autism

'I am odd, I am new'

Benjamin had a simple school assignment: Write a poem with the title "I Am." He nailed it and then some.

The 10-year-old lives with Asperger syndrome, a "high functioning" autism spectrum disorder. He penned a beautifully honest piece about his daily life experiences.

"I hear voices in the air," he wrote, "I see you don't, and that's not fair."

Benjamin's mother shared his work with the National Autism Association, which posted his poem on its Facebook page earlier this month. Since then, it's been shared over 22,000 times and racked up over 31,000 reactions. Clearly Benjamin's words have resonated with a lot of people.
