'Drinking Buddies' Trailer: Leaving You Thirsty For More

The trailer has just landed for "Drinking Buddies," the boozy new romantic comedy from mumblecore pioneer Joe Swanberg (if you don't know what mumblecore is, ask your friend who lives in that really tiny studio in Brooklyn, they'll tell you) and honestly it kind of makes us thirsty for more. It's got a super winning cast (Jake Johnson from "New Girl," Ron Livingston from "Office Space," Anna Kendrick from "Pitch Perfect" and Olivia Wilde from a number of our most inappropriate daytime fantasies). The film is set in a Chicago brewery, so if you have a history of alcoholism, you might want to just watch the trailer for "The LEGO Movie" another 12 times instead.

"Drinking Buddies" has a pretty conventional romantic comedy set up: Wilde and Johnson work together in the brewery, and Kendrick and Livingston are their respective partners. They go away together for a weekend, which is something that almost all of these small budget movies share as a plot device, and (of course) things become stickier than an aged malted barley. (Can you tell we don't drink but are forcing the metaphors anyway?)

The leads are are terribly likable, sexy people and the movie looks like it's got enough earthy realism to set it apart from the slick Hollywood counterparts. There's a great bit towards the end where Wilde is talking about what it is like to go through a break-up that is so perfectly spot on, it just breaks your heart. If you're looking for a breather from all the big budget summertime nonsense, this could be just the ticket.

"Drinking Buddies" will be available to watch on iTunes starting on July 25th and will be in theaters on August 23rd.
