Zack Snyder: 'Man of Steel' to Come Before Any 'Justice League' Business

Looks like the "Man of Steel" will be getting a sequel faster than a speeding bullet ... or at least, faster than any "Justice League" composite, if director Zack Snyder has anything to do with it.*

To recap, ever since Marvel starting building their "cinematic universe," with stand-alone films introducing several major (and some not-so-major) superheroes, which crescendoed brilliantly with last summer's team-up movie "The Avengers," comic book fans and casual moviegoers alike have been wondering when Warner Bros., slinger of all-things-DC Comics, would adopt a similar approach.

While Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy films were notable (read: awesome), they were also pretty self-contained, existing in a world where Batman was seemingly the world's lonely superhero. With the release of this month's big budget Superman reboot, though, it seems that the possibilities of the DC Universe are widening a 'lil bit, and a "Justice League" movie — which would sorta reverse the Marvel ethos by introducing a bunch of heroes, then spinning off from there — has been a non-thing-but-maybe-a-thing for a while now.

While making the press rounds for "Man of Steel," Snyder suggested that there needed to be further Superman movies before a "Justice League" feature could ever be approached.

Snyder told Collider (hey, we rhymed!) that "I feel like you need to get Superman a little further down the road before you can do a 'Justice League' movie." He then refuted the previous reports that the studio was aiming for a summer 2015 release date, if only to try and keep Disney, which has "Star Wars: Episode VII" and "The Avengers 2" on tap for that summer, from completely ruling the box office roost.

Still, while refuting the claims of "Justice League" advancement, Snyder did let slip that there is a connection between Batman and his "Man of Steel" ... ya know, as in the drawn universe.

[Spoilers ahead, but only if you really care about things that would require Blu-ray and excellent freeze-frame remote control skills.]

Okay - final spoiler warning - still there? Well then.

Speaking with international site Omelete (and dutifully transcribed by Collider) Snyder confirmed that, "The Wayne Enterprises logo is on a satellite that Zod destroys." Cue all the ominous music ... The DC Universe is being built one logo at a time! Or Snyder is just giving a shout out to the Batman movies that were directed by "Man of Steel" producer Christopher Nolan... Either way, ominous music is totally called for.

And while it seems like the studio is happy with the final product (with composer Hans Zimmer noting that future super-installments could be in order), we need to be reminded of the folly of "Superman Returns." That was also a seemingly surefire hit, resurrecting the superhero for contemporary audiences with the backing of a white hot director (Bryan Singer). And we all know how well that turned out. So mayyyyybe less chicken-counting is in order at this time ... at least until the Kryptonian eggs have hatched.

*Quick note from Captain Obvious: It's been rumored for a while that the studio wants Snyder for the "Justice League" project.
