Disney Already Preparing Sequel to 'Oz the Great and Powerful'

"Oz the Great and Powerful" is just arriving in theaters today, but according to Variety, that hasn't stopped the always optimistic Disney from already preparing a sequel, as"Oz the Great and Powerful's" co-writer Mitchell Kapner has apparently been hard at work on a script for months now.

Hey Disney, we know just what you can call the sequel: "The Wizard of Oz."

Catchy, right?

Of course, details are sketchy on what a sequel to "Oz the Great and Powerful" might entail, but considering the film is itself a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz," Disney may need to first figure out exactly what to even call such a movie. A Midquel? A Postquel? A Blatantmoneygrabquel?

Still, given that "Oz the Great and Powerful" has been getting decent reviews and is expected to earn roughly $80 million in its opening weekend domestically, it appears that Disney's decision to plan ahead may end up paying off. That's assuming, of course, that "Oz the Great and Powerful" star James Franco is cool for another go round (no word yet on whether his contract includes provisions for a sequel). And then there's the question of whether director Sam Raimi wants to come back as well.

Planning a sequel to a prequel to a movie that came out almost 75 years ago? Based on the money they're set to rake in, it looks like Disney at least absorbed half the lesson of "The Wizard of Oz." Because we're not sure if they have any heart, but they sure seem to have a brain.
