That "Grinch" movie with Jim Carrey (somehow) made a lot of money and all ... but maybe it's time to forget it ever existed. Hey, we're cool with that.

Hollywood seems to really like where the future of Dr. Seuss cinema is going with the highly successful animated adaptations that have come out recently, so much that an animated reboot of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is now in the works, according to Heat Vision.

"The Grinch" was published in 1957 and adapted as a now-classic half-hour animated Christmas special in 1966, which featured Boris Karloff as both the story's narrator and the voice of the Grinch. Jim Carrey didn't sound like Karloff at all when he played the Grinch in Ron Howard's wretched 2000 live-action film (which had so much noise, noise, noise, noise!), but hey, the thing made over $345 million worldwide, so apparently it's us who have the hearts three sizes too small.

Hot on the heels of the animated feature adaptations of "Horton Hears a Who!" (2008) and "The Lorax" (2012) comes a planned animated 3D feature of "The Grinch," which will be overseen by Illumination Entertainment CEO Chris Meledandri. Peter Candeland, an up-and-coming music video and commercials helmer, is set to direct.

No writer is attached to the project yet, though Audrey Geisel, the widow of Dr. Seuss author Theodor Geisel, will executive produce. There's also no word of casting yet, which has us racking our brains as to who could possibly match Karloff as the voice of the Grinch. That's a hard act to follow, all you Whos of Whoville. Any ideas?
