'The Lord of the Rings:' One Tree to Rule Them All

For anybody who loves a good story, genealogy is a fascinating thing. There's nothing quite like the thrill of uncovering a tale of an ancestor's life and learning how they lived, how they came to America, where they worked, the wars they fought in or who they loved. There's something magical about it.

Now just imagine how magical it would be if your family was from Middle-earth.

That's pretty much the premise behind the new, tremendously engrossing Lord of the Rings Family Tree Project. Subtitled "A Genealogy of Middle-earth," the Lord of the Rings Family Tree Project is an interactive website that traces the lineage of pretty much every character in J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved fantasy world, from Frodo and Bilbo to Bifur, Bofur and Bombur.

And not only does it trace lineages, but each individual entry whisks you right to a bio of the character, giving you a look at the (quite literal) battles they fought over the course of their lives.

Our suggestion: Take a look at this amazing website. And then, when you're done, go ask your own family members about your family tree. Because they may not have carried the One Ring to Mt. Doom, but we bet they have some pretty epic stories to tell too.
