Is there a more highly anticipated cinematic team-up in all of 2013?
Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper join forces — and knock heads — in "The Place Beyond the Pines," the new crime thriller that premiered earlier this year at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Gosling plays a (heavily tattooed) ne'er-do-well who's looking to do the right thing and take care of the kid he never knew he had until he comes a'callin' for an old lover (Eva Mendes); unfortunately, he's not good for much besides breaking the law, and a bank robbery might be just the thing to make ends meet. Enter his foil, a recently recruited police officer (Cooper) who's looking to bring the motorcycle-riding criminal to justice while he deals with his own crooked colleagues (led by the ever-intense Ray Liotta).
Gosling's got home field advantage here, as the film reunites him with his "Blue Valentine" director, Derek Cianfrance. Whatever the outcome of this morality tale, you can almost guarantee it's going to be ultra-depressing for everyone involved.
