Life Imitating Art: New NASA Spacesuits Look Like Buzz Lightyear

Researchers at NASA have built a prototype of a new spacesuit that looks weirdly similar to the suit worn by Buzz Lightyear, one of the heroes of "Toy Story," The Hollywood Reporter noticed.

Adorned with fluorescent green accents, the  Z-1 Prototype Spacesuit and Portable Life Support System 2.0 is actually lightyears ahead in terms of technology, with new features that would allow the astronaut wearing it to dock to shuttles easily on deep-space missions, without the use of an airlock. It's still in the prototype stage, but  NASA hopes to have the suit in use — and, more importantly, the manned space program back in swing — by 2017.

This isn't the first time NASA and Disney have crossed paths: In an effort to inspire more kids to become astronauts, the two groups worked together on a children's education program centering around a journey Buzz Lightyear takes into space.

If the Z-1 goes into wide use, does that mean that all astronauts will sound like Tim Allen, too?
