'Kick-Ass 2' Is Seeing Stars With Jim Carrey Cast as The Colonel

When Jim Carrey sang a duet with Conan O'Brien of Five For Fighting's "Superman (It's Not Easy)" wearing Aaron Johnson's green suit from "Kick-Ass," who would have thought he'd be fighting alongside Johnson just a few years later?

Straight from the "Dreams to Reality" files comes word from Deadline that Jim Carrey will indeed co-star as Colonel Stars in "Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall," as confirmed by the film's director Jeff Wadlow on his Twitter feed:

"6 days till we start shooting... and we officially have our Colonel. Alrighty f'n then! @ChloeGMoretz @MintzPlasse @donald_faison #kickass2"

In case that not-so-subtle Ace Ventura reference was lost on you, here's the comic book's creator Mark Millar's reply Tweet: "@MintzPlasse @JeffWadlow clue- he lives with 200 raccoons and parrots, owns the mask of Loki and named by Spielberg as a genius."

For the uninitiated, Colonel Stars (along with his brother Lieutenant Stripes) was a former mob enforcer who became a born-again Christian and forms the real-life superhero team Justice Forever, which over the course of the story recruits Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz). The role should provide adequate opportunity for Carrey to mine comic gold, as the character has a hardened military façade that masks his much softer nature.

Carrey is an acknowledged fan of the original 2010 film's blend of bloody violence and superhero satire, and will lend a similar amount of movie star wattage as his old "Peggy Sue Got Married" buddy Nicolas Cage did in the first one as Big Daddy. Whether Lieutenant Stripes will be cast or simply consolidated into this one character has yet to be determined.

This is not Carrey's first comic book rodeo either, as he famously made "Batman Forever" semi-watchable as The Riddler.
