Elle Fanning Will Swim 'Olive's Ocean'

Elle Fanning is jumping into the deep end.

The "Super 8" heroine will soon join the ranks of actresses who've appeared in adaptations of Young Adult novels as she's set to star in "Olive's Ocean," according to Deadline.

"Olive's Ocean" follows a teenager (Fanning) who goes on a summer of soul searching after discovering that a classmate who recently died in a tragic accident had secretly hoped to become her friend. The YA book, written by Kevin Henkes, won the Newbury Honor award (remember those?) in 2004.

The seeds were planted for the screen adaptation when Elle was visiting her big sister, Dakota, on the set of the upcoming Victorian drama, "Effie." Producer Donald Rosenfeld asked the younger Fanning what her favorite book was and she replied with ... well, "Olive's Ocean."

Elle Fanning is becoming an even bigger star than her sister Dakota. She won acclaim for her sensitive, precocious performances in both "Somewhere" and "Super 8" and was last seen as Matt Damon's daughter in "We Bought a Zoo." She's currently filming "Maleficent," opposite Angelina Jolie, and will next be seen in Sally Potter's '60s drama, "Ginger & Rosa," which will make its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September.

No start date has been announced for "Olive's Ocean," though we expect Fanning will segue right into this once she wraps her fairy tale turn in "Maleficent."
