Keira Knightley Wins Role of Mrs. 'Jack Ryan'

Keira Knightley is taking off the corset.

The "Anna Karenina" star is taking a break from costume dramas as she signs on to join the cast of the franchise reboot, "Jack Ryan," according to Heat Vision.

"Jack Ryan" serves as a prequel to the Tom Clancy series of novels as the title character, an ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst, uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy. Chris Pine will be playing the lead role, following in the footsteps of Alec Baldwin ("The Hunt For Red October"), Harrison Ford ("Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger") and Ben Affleck ("The Sum of All Fears").

Keira Knightley will be playing the role of Jack's wife, who is most definitely put in harm's way at some point. Knightley won the part over both Evangeline Lilly and Felicity Jones, two of many actresses who met with director Kenneth Branagh over the past couple of weeks. The cast also includes Kevin Costner and Branagh himself, who will playing the main villain.

"Jack Ryan" marks Keira Knightley's first return to a big Hollywood franchise after appearing as Elizabeth Swann in the original "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy. She was seen earlier this summer in "Seeking a Friend For the End of the World" and will next be seen in the title role of "Anna Karenina," opening Nov. 9.

"Jack Ryan" will commence with production in the fall with a look toward either a spring or summer 2014 release date.
