First 'Avengers' Poster Sure to Drive Font Enthusiasts Wild

Iron Man. Thor. Captain America. The Hulk.

All four have had big budget solo films over the past few years and all four are set to unite on the big screen in next year's "The Avengers" in what many consider to be one of the most ambitious events in film history. So what else do they have in common?

Well, none of them are anywhere to be seen on the first official teaser poster.

Yes, thanks to Empire, we now have our first look at the first poster for Marvel's epic mega-crossover "The Avengers" and it's... a poster, all right. Not that we're not psyched about it; after all, fans of the comic will recognize the iconic A-in-a-circle logo that has been the symbol of the Avengers for years. And it does get the basic info out there, namely that the movie arrives in 2012.

Still, after the awesome poster for "The Dark Knight Rises" and the incredible animated, flaming super poster for "The Hunger Games," we were kind of hoping Joss Whedon would break out the big guns for "The Avengers," namely some combination of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans. After all, every film fan in the world knows who those guys are, but this poster is more likely to get font enthusiasts excited than fanboys.

What do you guys think? Too subtle? Or just right for a first tease? Let us know what you think, and stay tuned.
