Hollywood Loses Another Legend: Actor Tony Curtis Dies

It's about as dark in Hollywood this week as it is in rainy New York City.

Just days after the death of 100-year-old "Titanic" star Gloria Stuart, "Some Like It Hot" actor Tony Curtis as passed away.

A rep for his daughter, "You Again" star Jamie Lee Curtis, confirmed the 85-year-old former Oscar nominee's death following cardiac arrest at his home in the Las Vegas area early this morning.

Jamie Lee was his daughter by actress Janet Leigh. The Brangelina of their day, Curtis and Leigh spent 11 years together before splitting. He was married five more times in his life, and is survived by three children and his last wife, Jill Vandenberg Curtis.

He's best remembered for starring with Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon in "Some Like It Hot." In the comedy caper, he and Lemmon play musicians under disguise in an all-woman band after they witness a mob hit.

The star of more than 100 films, Curtis's career on the silver screen began with a contract for Universal in 1949, but he broke through as scheming press agent Sidney Falco in "Sweet Smell of Success" in 1957. He nabbed an Oscar nomination for 1958's "The Defiant Ones" in which he starred with Sidney Poitier.

Curtis kept acting right up until his death, and was renowned for his range and ability with both drama and comedy. He also loved painting and has had his work displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The actor's health had been poor for some time, and he was hospitalized in July following a severe asthma attack during a book signing.
