'Django,' 'Flight' and 'Beasts' Top NAACP Image Awards Nominees

This year's nominees for the NAACP Image Awards run the gamut from Quentin Tarantino's ultra-bloody "Django Unchained" to more traditional dramatic fare like Denzel Washington's "Flight." While many of the noms are high profile actors like Washington, Morgan Freeman, Halle Berry and Kerry Washington, there are also quite a few indie nominations.

Art house darling "Beasts of the Southern Wild" is up for the Outstanding Independent Motion Picture award, and its tiny star Quvenzhané Wallis is up against industry stalwarts like Loretta Devine and Oscar nominee Viola Davis for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture. Wallis has already snagged several awards from critics' associations and the Breakthrough Awards at the Gothams, and few would be surprised if she shows up at the Oscars this year.

"Middle of Nowhere," which won the Directing Award at Sundance for Ava DuVernay and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize, is up for two awards for its stars Emayatzy Corinealdi (Best Actress) and David Oyelowo (Best Supporting Actor). Oscar prognosticators have thrown DuVernay and Corinealdi into the mix for possible nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Actress, respectively, especially as the film picks up speed with four noms at the Indie Spirit Awards. While it's a shame that "Middle of Nowhere" wasn't honored for Outstanding Motion Picture, here's hoping we see it at Oscar time.

The full list of nominees are below. The 44th Image Awards ceremony takes place on Feb. 1, 2013, at 8 p.m. ET.
