Thanksgiving Box Office Is All Stuffing, No Turkeys

There were no turkeys at this year's Thanksgiving box office, as movie goers stuffed the box office like never before, leading to the highest five-day gross in the history of cinema with an estimated $288 million taken in.

Of course, there were also no real surprises either, with holdovers hanging on to the top three spots. "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" led the charge with an estimated $64 million over the five-day extended weekend, followed once again by "Skyfall" in second place ($51 million) and "Lincoln" in third ($34.1 million).

It was a bit of a mixed bag for new releases. "Rise of the Guardians" failed to meet expectations, debuting in fourth place with $32.6 million over the five-day weekend for one of DreamWorks Animation's softest debuts ever. "Life of Pi," on the other hand, exceeded expectations with its $30.1 million debut, which was good enough for fifth place at the box office. And "Red Dawn" bowed in seventh place, managing to drag in $22 million over five days on the strength of its star power despite poor reviews.

Also of note: "Silver Linings Playbook," which has been getting major Oscar buzz for leads Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, snuck into the top ten despite still being in limited release.

With no major new releases scheduled for this coming Friday, though (unless you count the Brad Pitt gangster flick "Killing Them Softly," which so far seems to be flying under the radar), it's possible that "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," "Skyfall" and "Lincoln" could end up 1-2-3 again for the third weekend in a row.
