Honey Boo Boo Gets A Spinoff

Reality TV has seen its share of trainwreck families over the years, but this might be the best (worst?) yet.

Alana Thompson, the 6-year-old “Toddlers & Tiaras” contestant known for referring to herself as “Honey Boo Boo,” drinking a type of fortified Mountain Dew called “Go-Go Juice,” and for being, uh, pleasingly plump, is getting her own series on TLC – and the rest of her family is along for the ride.

The TLC press release for the show, to be titled “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” reads as if it can’t possibly describe a real family, but for those who are already familiar with Alana and her mother June, it’s all too believable. “When she’s not chasing after crowns, Alana’s with her family in rural Georgia doing what her family does best: four-wheeling through mud pits and picking up road kill for the family cookout.” Well, it was either that or chess lessons, right?

Honey Boo Boo isn’t the only one in the family with a nickname, although most of the others are even less flattering. Dad “Sugar Bear” is a chalk miner. 12-year-old sis Lauryn is known as “Pumpkin.” 15-year-old Jessica goes by “Chubbs,” which I think we can all agree is the ideal nickname for a teenage girl. 17-year-old Anna is “Chickadee,” which wouldn’t be so bad except that she’s pregnant.

The six-week series begins in August. God bless America.
