What2Watch: Dancing Succeeds Because of Its Stars

Dancing With the Stars continues to do about as well as it ever has, and primary credit has to be given to the casting. The show doesn't get A-listers obviously; most of them have too much going on to devote a few months to learning how to dance. But Dancing excels at attracting the best of the rest, people like Marie Osmond and Wayne Newton. And the decision to cast so many athletes, not necessarily the first idea I would have had for a show with a big female skew, has worked out wonderfully on both ratings and artistic grounds.

Of course, Dancing must now go on (ABC, 8 PM) without Steve Guttenberg, who has suddenly become something of an icon for people in my age group. It's probably too early for the first major shocker of the season, not while Adam Carolla remains around. It does appear that Marissa Jaret Winokur has potential to be the Marie Osmond character, the dancer who becomes inexplicably popular and hangs around, only to become unpopular when she gets blamed for unjust departures. I would not have supposed that a Broadway veteran would be outdanced by the likes of Shannon Elizabeth and even Marlee Matlin, but that's been the case thus far. If she takes out the deaf woman or Mrs. Elvis, she had better be prepared for America's wrath.

Greek (ABC Family, 8 PM): Casey is alarmed to learn about Rebecca's new relationship; Kappa Tau seeks revenge on Omega Chi.

Little People, Big World (TLC, 8 PM and 8:30 PM): At 8:00, Zach has a date with a girl of average height, while Amy takes Molly whale watching. At 8:30, rebellious teens Zach and Jeremy get into trouble over their lousy grades, leading to Jeremy getting his car keys yanked.

Top Gear (BBC America, 8 PM): Jennifer Saunders, who never moved all that quickly on Absolutely Fabulous, gets to climb behind the wheel.

Curb Appeal (HGTV, 8:30 PM): If you want your white home to stand out, add some color to it. That logic is hard to argue with.

America's Prom Queen (ABC Family, 9 PM): The remaining girls have to plan prom events without knowing who the guests of honor will be. Ooooh, I smell an ironic twist!

Flavor of Love 3 (VH1, 9 PM): New women in the house? Are you kidding me? The remaining Flavorettes divide into three-woman teams where one represents Flav's "bride," and the bride then has to prepare a eulogy for a mock Flav funeral.

Jon & Kate Plus 8 (TLC, 9 PM): The latest in a series of individual days out for the young 'uns: Collin is taken to a train museum, while Alexis gets to visit reptiles. Alexis sounds like my kind of kid.

NCAA Basketball: Championship (CBS, 9 PM): It's Kansas against Memphis for all the marbles. Finally, a big game Ohio State won't lose.

New Amsterdam (Fox, 9 PM): John's first partner, near death due to complications from an old bullet wound, wants his old friend to bring his shooter to justice, which leads to a run-in with the Russian mob. You can't do a crime show in New York without that ol' Russian mob.

Paradise Hotel 2 (MNTV, 9 PM; Fox Reality 1 AM): Myrna rides high with her immunity, but decides to use it in a surprising way; someone else will head for home.

Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30 PM): Samantha finds out she could potentially be evicted for subletting her apartment, so she moves back in with the guy who lives there now: her ex, Todd, who has a new girlfriend.

Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (Food Network, 10 PM): Examining some smaller establishments with eclectic international menus, such as a Phoenix restaurant with a Chinese-Caribbean orientation.

Extreme Fishermen (Bio, 10 PM): Fishing is now an extreme sport? The arena music will scare all the fish away. This new series is set in the waters of the North Sea, where Scottish fishermen battle the elements and sometimes each other. Tonight, competition for prawns leads to one boat getting trapped on a seabed in the midst of a storm.

High School Confidential (WE, 10 PM): Crystle deals with long periods at home with absent parents, and then finds that her school relationships are suffering due to the ill effects of gossip.

Medium (NBC, 10 PM): Stunt casting at its finest: Rosanna Arquette, the sister of the star of the series and someone who doesn't act nearly often enough, guests as a prime suspect in the murders of two younger men. Also, Allison senses that Devalos has an enemy close to his campaign.

Mystery Diagnosis (Discovery Health, 10 PM): A woman has been reporting various symptoms for over 50 years, but no doctor has even been able to figure out what the problem is. I can imagine that might get just a little frustrating.

The Bachelor: London Calling (ABC, 10 PM): Is the show moving faster than usual this season? It's another night with three eliminations. Matt takes one woman on a solo date to the Santa Monica pier, has a date with two others which ends with only one still in the running, and goes for tea and tennis with the other six.

The Hills (MTV, 10 PM and 10:30 PM): OMG! Lauren and Stephanie are BFFs now! Spencer's sister gets invited to Lauren's birthday party, and Brody takes it upon himself to warn Lauren about the dangers.

Cheerleader U. (WE, 11 PM): The second season ends with the girls from Central Florida trying to defend their national championship. I'm hoping for the best, since I had them in my bracket.
