Yule Just Love Holiday TV: A Christmas Story Marathon & More

In the unlikely event you get bored watching the Yule Log, here is some of the holiday programming that awaits you today and tomorrow. This is a very partial list; suffice it to say you'll get Christmas almost everywhere you turn the dial the next two days.

Various Programming, ABC Family: Animated specials run for seven hours beginning at 11:00 AM, heavy on the Rankin-Bass. The Year Without a Santa Claus is at 4:00, for all you fans of the Misers. Back-to-back airings of The Polar Express start at 6 PM.

The Nativity Story (HBO 9:15 AM and 8:00; Tuesday HBO2 10:00 AM, HBO-F 10:15 PM): This film and Deck the Halls were released in 2006, so this becomes their first and certainly not their last years as holiday TV perennials. The Nativity Story starred the teenaged Keshia Castle-Hughes, who went above and beyond the publicity call by getting pregnant as the film was about to come out.

ER (TNT, 10:00 AM): Marathons of shows during holidays are nothing new, but ER is the rare show that has been around long enough to have a marathon with just Christmas episodes. Nine episodes run back-to-back. Beware the high sugar quotient.

Deck the Halls (HBO, 1:15 and 9:45; HBO2 Tuesday 8:15 AM): The 2006 film stars Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick as feuding neighbors.

A Christmas Carol (AMC, 1:45 and 8:00): The 1984 version starring George C. Scott.

The Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2 (Disney, 6:00 and 8:00): Tim Allen stars. He needs to work more.

Bad Santa (Comedy Channel): This airs twice tonight and twice more tomorrow night, for all of those into sacrilege.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular (Bravo, 7:00 PM and 8:00 AM); Meredith Vieira, Matt Lauer, and some Rockettes.

Monday Night Football (ESPN, 8:00): The NFL avoided Christmas as best it could for years, a carryover from a playoff game on the afternoon of Christmas in 1971 that went into overtime and played havoc with holiday dinners everywhere. Now the league is putting games on the night of Christmas Eve itself. Maybe Tony Kornheiser can play Santa, which will probably be more entertaining than watching San Diego pound Denver.

It's A Wonderful Life (NBC, 8:00): That Uncle Billy. Will he ever get it together?

A Christmas Story (TBS, 8:00): The 24-hour marathon returns. I'll watch it at least once, and so will all of you. Actor Zack Ward, who played bully Scut Farkas, popped up on the dog fighting episode of CSI two weeks ago, and I was surprised by how much he looks like the same guy. If only we could all say that about our 25-years-older selves.

Christmas At Belmont (PBS, 10:00): A Melinda Doolittle sighting! The best contestant on American Idol in 2007 hosts a holiday concert from Belmont University in Nashville.

CHRISTMAS DAY:

Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade (ABC, 10:00 AM): This is on tape, right? They're not actually dragging Regis Philbin, Kelly Ripa, Ryan Seacrest and the High School Musical cast down to Orlando on Christmas morning to parade around.

What's With That Really Decked Out Christmas House (HGTV, 10:00 AM): The question I'm sure we've all asked ourselves. HGTV visits some of the most lavishly decorated homes around the country.

Modern Marvels (History, 1:00 and 7:00): "Christmas Tech" looks at what goes into getting the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree to look so spiff.

NBA (ABC 2:30 and 5:00, ESPN 8:00): Three games, in order: Miami-Cleveland, L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, Seattle-Portland.

Capital One Holiday Celebration on Ice (NBC, 3:00): Brian Boitano and Tracy Wilson host this skatefest from the city synonymous with ice, Las Vegas.

Christmas in Paradise (Lifetime, 5:00): This movie stars an actress who is usually worthwhile to check out, Charlotte Ross. The setting is a Caribbean vacation, which isn't exactly traditional, but with so many people now living in warm weather climates, I don't see why they can't get their own non-snowy programming.

Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8:00): The only non-rerun in prime time is two hours of Howie Mandel and the cast of models, whose briefcases hold the usual cash, as well as some holiday themed rewards such as lumps of coal.

Have a great Christmas!
