In Memoriam: Honoring 50 Cent's Instagram

50 says he'll no longer be running his own account

The 50 Cent Posting And Saying Reckless Shit On Instagram era appears, sadly, to have come to an end.

Fif made the devastating announcement Thursday night, plainly stating the change of plans: "I'm done with IG after tonight, someone else will operate it for me," he wrote.

Though he offered no specific explanation, this likely was a decision born out of the ongoing proceedings in his bankruptcy case. Since filing in July, 50 has, numerous times, posted pictures of himself, draped in money, making light of the situation. There was the time he spelled "Broke" out in stacks of bills, or when he made a video about not being able to see his legs because -- you guessed it -- they were covered in cash.

The judge in the case demanded an explanation, and now 50's saying that he had to maintain his image, and the money was actually a prop.

Before his announced departure, he addressed the issue: "I have millions of dollar in my company's, the court knows this. I was accused of committing fraud with nothing but a IG photo. I can careless what these people think of me but it's not right. Now someone from secret service is asking if prop money was counter fitted. How the fuck would I know that shit head? Smh #EFFENVODKA #FRIGO #thisimageiscourtapporved."

It's that final sentence, followed by that final hashtag, which synthesizes exactly what I'll miss about 50 running his own account. Calling out, clowning, and cursing at a Secret Service agent, with zero fucks given? Check. Trolling the court and the judge, even as they've already given him issues, furthering the zero fucks given attitude? Check.

Fif's Instagram hits have been a bottomless serving of trolling and jokes (with a healthy heap of promotion, too... #EFFENVODKA). Of course there's all the jokes about his bankruptcy. But we also had his Floyd Mayweather videos. The Meek Mill memes. His son's cuteness. The sentimental moments. The 15-second comedy sketches. Throwback gems. The self-congratulatory motivation.

It didn't always have the cleanest aesthetic. You could be almost certain that there was some typo tucked in the caption. And 50 -- not shy about deleting things hours or days after they'd gone up -- probably went back and erased what had become your favorite post.

But it was a well of playful absurdity and, as the reigns now get passed to a new driver, I'll miss it.
