And lo, the rumors were true: "Fruitvale Station" and "Creed" director Ryan Coogler will helm the Phase III pic, which will feature Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, a.k.a. T’Challa, a character expected to make his kickass debut in "Captain America: Civil War" this May.

The studio confirmed the news on Monday (Jan. 11), with exec Kevin Feige praising the talents of the lauded writer-director.

"We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family," Feige said. "The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”

"Black Panther" is slated to hit theaters on Feb. 16, 2018.
