As much of a joy (wink) as she is in real life, Jennifer Lawrence has tackled some pretty heavy material over the course of her still-young career.

Think about it. "The Hunger Games" was about a starving girl's at-first-inadvertent revolution against the tyrannical leadership that wanted to sacrifice her little sister for televised bloodsport. Meanwhile, in "Silver Linings Playbook," she portrayed a woman who was widowed and broken and so, so angry at the world. Oh, and poor BB Ree in "Winter's Bone" was eventually made to retrieve her own dead father's hand out of the Ozarks after he'd been taken out by a bunch of meth dealers, just to save her family home.

But if the latest JLaw career news means what we think it does, we might be about to see her darkest side yet.

Per Variety Jen is expected to star in director Darren Aronofsky's next movie alongside Javier Bardem, about a couple who are suddenly bombarded with "unexpected guests" who disrupt their happy little life together. And we have a few theories about how this collaboration is gonna turn out.

First of all, Jennifer is probably going to be dealing with a character who starts off mostly normal, albeit a touch woebegone.

Most of Darren Aronofsky's central characters (we're hesitant to use the term "protagonist" here because that's often debatable) begin their cinematic journeys in less than ideal circumstances which aren't altogether hopeless but leave a lot of room for disaster.

Her world, which is probably pretty focused on one particular goal, will inevitably start to spiral out of control.

In the case of Natalie Portman's "Black Swan" counterpart, for example, she became overwhelmed with the mental and physical fatigue of her singular life's work as a prima ballerina and straight-up started to lose all semblance of sanity. Most of Darren's characters have one mission and sacrifice everything -- especially mental wellness -- to achieve it.

That's when sh-t'll *really* hit the fan.

Remember the super cringey deli slicer scene with Mickey Rourke in "The Wrestler"? Yeah, that's some classic Aronofsky stuff right there, when the character in question has exhausted 100% of their patience-slash-sanity and unleashes their inner beasts on whoever's timing is unfortunate enough to put 'em in their path.

The fall will be gloriously unsettling.

Exhibit A: "Requiem for a Dream." (Although we hope it's not gonna get *that* damned dark this time.)

Naturally, Jen's performance will wow us all to pieces.

Jennifer Lawrence already makes most people stand on their tippy toes just to see the bar she's set, but if she's given the right story here, she could really reach some new heights (or depths, depending on how you look at it).

She'll probably go and win all the prizes.

She's a true awards season sweetheart all her own, so this partnership would just be icing on the golden trophy-shaped cake. Aronofsky's movies are responsible for a lot of acting noms and wins over the years (including Portman, Rourke, Ellen Burstyn, Marisa Tomei and Mila Kunis), so Jen is pretty much a shoo-in when this thing drops in 2017.

And then she and DA will be the new JLaw and David O. Russell.

Darren doesn't have a history of repeating too often with actors -- even though he's obviously worked with some heavyweights over the years -- but if anyone were to become his go-to muse, it's Jen.

Any other predictions for the Jennifer Lawrence-Darren Aronofsky collaboration? Is she going to get weird and start offing her house guests? Think this'll turn into a sci-fi pseudo reality like in "The Fountain"?

One thing's for sure: this is going to be an incredibly interesting match-up of talents. All the YES for this news.
