Shawn Mendes set fire to the rain at the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday night (Jan. 6) when he took the stage to perform a medley of his tunes.

After winning Favorite Breakout Artist, the "Stitches" singer busted out that very hit while the ginormous screen behind him projected pouring rain onto the stage.

And even though Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes hate the similarities that are drawn between the two, one can't help but notice that the rain scenario looked pre-tty close to what Bieber pulled off at the American Music Awards in November.

However, Mendes wasn't messing with real rain. Maybe Taylor Swift, who invited him on the 1989 World Tour this summer, advised him otherwise.
