Ben-Gay, Eye Irritant? Here Are The Crazy Conspiracy Theories About Obama’s Tears

An onion in the lectern, because that's a thing presidents do.

Presidents don't cry. Even when they're talking about the emotions that well up when they recall conversations they've had with the parents of first graders killed in mass shootings.

At least according to the Internet. Just hours after President Obama welled-up when recalling the Sandy Hook school massacre during a Tuesday press conference announcing his executive actions on gun control, some suggested that the emoter-in-chief was faking his partisan, gun-hating tears.

One of the popular theories was that Obama used an "eye irritant" to get his tear ducts going.

"Our unalienable right to life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness — those rights were stripped from college kids in Blacksburg and Santa Barbara," Obama said during the event attended by a number of victims of gun violence and their families, as well as "Trainwreck" star Amy Schumer, who has been actively campaigning for new gun control measures.

"And from high schoolers at Columbine. And from first graders in Newtown. First graders. And from every family who never imagined that their loved one would be taken by a bullet from a gun... Every time I think about those kids, it gets me mad. And by the way, it happens on the streets of Chicago every day," Obama said.

Hell, someone has already made a meme-shirt about the incident.

Shockingly, Donald Trump -- who vowed to "unsign" the orders if he becomes president -- told Fox News that he thought Obama's tears were "sincere," while Fox News contributor Andrea Tantaros said, "check that podium for like a raw onion or some no-more-tears. I mean, it’s not really believable."

There were, of course, also plenty of people who were moved by Obama's emotion.
