Leo Maymind's ‘Kingston Rooftops’ Mix For MTV Hive: Trade The Club For The View

CMJ is rip-roaring through NYC right now, but for those of you looking to straight chill this weekend, we’ve got the answer in the form of a mix. Kingston Rooftops, the latest exclusive guest mix for MTV Hive, comes from Brooklyn-based musician/writer/producer Leo Maymind, who has lately been finding some inspiration, as The Drifters say, up on the roof.

A known electronic/synth connoisseur, Maymind contributes to XLR8R, a leading voice in independent electronic music in the U.S., as well as the Gear column over at Noisey, a sister-site of Vice. Maymind tells Hive the mix is "equally inspired by the reggae and dub sounds that I've soaked in from my Brooklyn rooftop and the range of sensual electronic sounds that have filled my days."

Stepping back from the hectic day-to-day, Maymind put together a 45-minute set that hosts “sensual electronic songs that manage to put sonics and storytelling on equal footing with the raw energy of the reggae and dub sounds that blast from speakers around my neighborhood.”

Take a listen as Jessy Lanza’s warm coo, Letherette’s filtered funk, and Sohn’s heartfelt contemplations rub shoulders with the house workouts of UK producers T. Williams and Fantastic Mr. Fox.  Dive in below:
