Sky Ferreira Teases Debut Album Details

Sky Ferreira has a really good explanation for why her long-awaited debut album won’t land until next year. The pop songstress recently tweeted, “My LP got pushed back for a few reasons. 1. Huge opportunity to make something better 2. I’ll now be able to release it worldwide.” For Sky, “making something better” means being able to collaborate with other artists. “I originally was done but I felt like I could write more and I had the chance to work with some other people,” she told Hive recently. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. I’d rather have an amazing album than a good album.”

So who will she be bringing in? Sky says, “I’m definitely working with Ariel [Reichstadt],” the prolific L.A. producer who contributed to some of the year’s standout releases such as Vampire Weekend’s Modern Vampires of the City, Charli XCX’s True Romance, and Major Lazer’s Free the Universe. Sky’s also been in conversation with her friend Grimes about a future collaboration, possibly outside of her debut. “I’ve been talking to Grimes about trying to figure something out. We’ll see, hopefully. I love collaborating with other artists.” What about Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes, who co¬produced Sky’s breakthrough track “Everything Is Embarrassing”? “Maybe. He’s a busy guy, though, so will see.”

It’s safe to assume, though, that Sky won’t be giving us a sequel to “Everything Is Embarrassing.” “I feel like “Everything Is Embarrassing” is something that happened and now it’s time for me to move forward,” she continued. “[EMI] is really supportive because the thing is that I’m writing pop songs at the end of the day. It’s not like “Everything Is Embarrassing” though.” Whatever it is, we’re excited to hear it come “late 2013 or the very first month of 2014.”

For now, Sky has another upcoming release to tide us over: Her You’re Not the One EP arrives September 16. “It’s pretty much done at this point,” Sky said. “It’s going to be “You’re Not the One,” “I Will,” “Love Stereo,” and “Ain’t Your Right.” Some of the songs are a bit more aggressive but there’s a guitar, electronic [vibe].”
