10 Fun Facts About Roach Gigz

Roach Gigz has become a Bay Area fan favorite by virtue of his cocksure raps and off-kilter sense of humor. He can also spit like a true pro, as demonstrated on his new Roachy Balboa III mixtape that you can cop for free today. But beyond the music what do you really know about the kid? Here's a handy primer courtesy of the Goomba Pimpin' prince himself.

1. He's an Armchair Rocky Fan

Balboa

"I'm a huge fan of Rocky since I was young. I had all the Rocky movies and I have watched them probably hundreds of times each. My favorite movies were number two and number three: I like number two 'cause he won and he can tell Adrian that he did it and I like number three 'cause the whole Mr. T thing was pretty cool. But I never took up boxing -- I'm much too lazy for that!"

2. His Phobias Include Vertigo and Spiders

"I called my song "Vertigo" after an incident the summer before high school, but for my other fears? It's too cliched but I really don't like spiders. If I see one I'll make someone else kill it. I think my fear is just the fact that they can kill you and you never know which one is which -- and that's kinda like humans too -- but you never know which one might have poison and it can be a little spider and it will kill you and you're gone. I don't like that."

3. Mac Dre Inspired Him to Start Rapping

Mac Dre

"If I could collaborate with any rapper past or present it would be Mac Dre. That's the obvious answer because he was the one who inspired me to start rapping. Hopefully Mac Dre would like the music I'm making now. I know a lot of people who knew him who are friends with me too and they have told me he would have messed with me."

4. His Favorite Food Is Peruvian

"My new favorite spot to eat in San Francisco is a place called Limon Rotisserie which is Peruvian. It's just amazing. I go there any time I can. They just give you like half a chicken and rice and beans and the sauces and everything. It's delicious. I shouted them out in a song called "It's Lit" when I said, "Fat plates from Limon where we ordering." That's my regular spot!"

5. His Celebrity Crush Is Meagan Good

meagangood

"I have a lot of celebrity crushes but I'd say my oldest and truest is Meagan Good. I've been in love with her for ages. If I got to go on a first date with her? I'd just take her to my house…"

6. His New Mixtape Features a Mystery Cat

"There's a cat meowing on the end of "Pussy Magnet," which I recorded with Kreayshawn, and I wish I knew whose cat that was! I wish I knew, man, 'cause I like that a lot! Maybe it's the mixer in the studio's cat 'cause he was the one who threw in the cat sound at the last minute."

7. He's a Halloween Fanatic

pimpish

"I like the time around fall when it gets near Halloween, like when it starts to get real dark, real early. Last year, I must have been fucked up at Halloween 'cause I don't remember what I dressed up as but I know when I was in seventh grade I came to school dressed as a pimp. I think it was a little bit inappropriate for school."

8. His Last Download Was The Kevin Gates Album

"I was just on tour and my laptop broke, like the hard drive crashed, so I lost all my music and all my sessions. When I got a new laptop the first thing I got was the new Kevin Gates. I think he's dope. I think Kevin Gates is one of the hardest rappers out right now, definitely. If we could collaborate I think it would be more of a fun vibe; I know he deals with a lot of serious subjects and he keeps it real with shit, but I think we'd have a lot of fun songs about the girls."

9. He Loves Turtles

— ROACH GIGZ (@RoachG) August 29, 2012

"I don't have any pets now -- I have a couple of kids. I'm not into dogs 'cause I know you have to do everything for them and this and that but I like turtles. I've had a couple of turtles in my life, like little miniature ones. I got 'em in Oakland -- someone passed them on to me and he named them like weird baby sounds. They're still alive. They're actually kinda big right now. We can go visit them sometimes."

10. He's Already Plotting His Next Project

"I already got another project started and I like it a lot. I've been waiting a long time to drop Roachy Balboa III [pictured] -- it's been ready for a while -- so I'm ready to drop this and go out and perform it and then come back in November with another project. It's going to be a special one…"
