While listening to Keaton Klassics, please be wary of any temptation to break out the fingerless gloves or parachute pants. On this hour-long mix, Los Angeles DJ and producer Good Night Keaton goes on a nostalgic trip through a series of fifteen ‘80s pop gems. “When I was growing up as a kid my life had a soundtrack,” he tells Hive. “Many of these songs could be heard on the radio, seen on early video shows or played by my dad as he prepared for another DJ set.” In many ways, this golden era of pop music, with its progressive drum patterns and synth-heavy sheen, has influenced GNK’s contemporary disco-house production more than any other. “These songs have an energy that I connect to and a continual ability to amaze me with their creativity, sonic sounds, pop melodies, and storytelling ... I wanted to put that feeling out there and use this chance to make a different mixtape that celebrates and shares an amazing time in music.”
