2016 hasn't even hit yet, but it's already shaping up to be another huge year for Gigi Hadid. She's just been announced as the Brand Ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger and has helped design a capsule collection to be unveiled next fall.

"Global ambassadorships are a bit overused and not too exciting," Hilfiger told the New York Times. "We’re really doing something different. We’re creating a line called Gigi by Tommy Hilfiger, using her style, her sense, her social media presence as the top supermodel in the world today."

Hopefully the collection will be an ultimate throwback to '90s Tommy Hilfiger, a look Gigi pulls off well. While there are a few "supermodels of the moment," Gigi is the perfect candidate to pair up with Tommy thanks to her all-American style and leading role in relaunching models into the celebrity space.

“I never thought I would be asked to design a capsule collection, so it still feels like a dream that Tommy approached me to collaborate,” Gigi said of the news. “His company is one that I genuinely love and have been a fan of for my entire life, and Tommy is the easiest, most fun person to work with. I have always looked up to his brand, campaigns and design style. I think our collection celebrates the iconic Tommy lifestyle and mixes a bit of everything.”

Tommy Hilfiger was a staple brand throughout the 1990s, the last time supermodels dominated the fashion industry. Since this wave of '90s nostalgia has swept over us, Tommy hasn't done much to nod back to his earlier collections (with the recent exception of his Mytheresa.com collab back in October). Not only would a Tommy capsule collection do well in the wake of '90s adoration, but having Gigi take the reigns on it would almost certainly thrust Tommy Hilfiger into a relevancy the brand hasn't seen since the Kate, Tyra, and Naomi days.

While everything will be shot, debuted, and released throughout 2016, the hype of Gigi's designing role is already beginning. With someone as in tune with the fashion industry as Gigi, there's little doubt that the capsule collection won't be flying off shelves once it hits stores.
