This Woman Used Her Wheelchair To Recreate Kylie Jenner's Controversial Photo

'I can barely get people to make eye contact with me, let alone land a cover shoot.'

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, Interview dropped their Kylie Jenner feature. The spread includes a controversial photograph of the 18-year-old posing in a golden wheelchair.

As MTV News reported earlier this month, the pic is making headlines for its insensitivity towards people who need a wheelchair in real life. Jenner and photographer Steven Klein use the mobility device as a prop, and critics are calling this an example of ableism, which is "discrimination or prejudice against individuals with disabilities."

Erin Tatum, a Tumblr user who lives with cerebral palsy, joined this ongoing conversation by recreating Jenner's photo shoot. Her pic has gone viral, amassing over 100,000 Tumblr notes, since she posted it on Thursday (Dec. 3).

"I can barely get people to make eye contact with me, let alone land a cover shoot," Tatum wrote. "If being in a wheelchair is trendy now, I’ve apparently been a trendsetter since before Kylie was born."

Tatum's response is a powerful and necessary reminder that ableism exists, and it's a problem that deserves everyone's attention and consideration.
