Here's How A Teen Responded To Being Voted One Of The 'Ugliest Girls' At Her School

'Just because we don't look perfect on the outside does not mean we are ugly.'

At Holy Trinity Regional High School in Torbay, Newfoundland, some students decided to create and vote in a straw poll ranking who the "ugliest girls" at the school were. Obviously, this kind of cyberbullying is despicably, horrendously mean, but teen Lynelle Cantwell didn't let it get her down.

Upon learning her name was included on the poll, she took to Facebook to let the bullies know that she actually felt sorry for them, in a post that's since gone viral with over 5,000 shares in just a few days.

"To the person that made the "ugliest girls in grade 12 at hth" ask.FM straw poll. I'm sorry that your life is so miserable that you have to try to bring others down," Lynelle wrote. "To the 12 people that voted for me to bring me to 4th place. I'm sorry for you too. I'm sorry that you don't get to know me as a person."

As she told BuzzFeed Canada, discovering her name on the list was upsetting, of course: “I felt hurt, like really really hurt. Not gonna lie, it tore me apart a little bit.”

But as she wrote later in her Facebook post, Lynelle said she knows who she is, and she's fine with that. You go, Lynelle.

"I know that i'm not the prettiest thing to look at. I know i have a double chin and i fit in XL clothes. I know i don't have the perfect smile or the perfect face. But i'm sorry for you. Not myself. I'm sorry that you get amusement out of making people feel like sh-t. I'm sorry that you'll never get the chance to know the kind of person i am. I may not look okay on the outside.. But i'm funny, nice, kind, down to earth, not judgemental, accepting, helpful, and i'm super easy to talk to. Thats the same for every other girl on that list that you all put down."

And then, just in case the dumb-dumbs who created and voted in the poll needed it broken down further for them, she closed it with a beautiful message of defiance: "Just because we don't look perfect on the outside does not mean we are ugly. If thats your idea of ugly then i feel sorry for you. Like seriously? Get a life."

Since the post went up and since it's been shared, Lynelle's experienced a huge surge in support -- and confidence.

"It was just amazing to get the support I was getting from people,” she told BuzzFeed Canda. “It boosted my confidence 100%. I have more confidence now than before the poll."

Nobody can drag Lynelle down.
