Mezco Opens Vault For A Unique Sale
What’s better than exclusive toys? How about very rare exclusive Mezco Toyz – in a vault! Okay, so it’s actually the reception area of the Mezco Toyz offices, but the toy company is opening its “vault” for the first time this week to sell prototypes, one-of-a-kind test shots, discontinued products and production items.
The test items that will be available include Mezco’s “Heroes” line based on the TV show, along with multiple Hellboy items, “Friday the 13th,” “Halloween,” “Kick-Ass,” “Family Guy” and much, much more. There are also a few items that were never released on the market, such as “The Watchmen” Mez-Itz. Some of the cooler items on display during our tour was a box of Abe Sapien paint test heads from “Hellboy 2,” and the Jason Voorhees test shots made with pink and red plastics (or whatever color plastic was in the machine when the test was made). Also of particular interest to collector’s are the “Breaking Bad” bobble and figure tests, as well as Cheetara and Snarf from “ThunderCats.” Customers will also be able to purchase popular items such as Mezco's Living Dead Dolls and leftover exclusives from cons and toy fairs.
What makes the vault sales especially interesting is that these test items and prototypes normally end up on display at institutions like The Museum Of The Moving Image or Geppi's Entertainment Museum, but are instead available for purchase for prices as low as $60 and, on average, in the $100-$200 price range.
The vault is located at Mezco Toyz New York City headquarters at 2109 Borden Ave, Long Island City, on the second floor. It opens Thursday, Aug. 15 for invitation only customers, but is then open to the public (ages 13 and older) on Friday from noon until 5 p.m.
