The award-winning singer will be giving a live concert in Union Square in July as part of New People’s J-Pop Summit Festival.
The 20-year-old singer, who last week earned MTV Japan Music awards for “Best Karaoke Song” (really) for her tune “Fashion Monster,” is headed to San Francisco as part of this year’s J-Pop festival theme of “Make Kawaii Universal!!” (extra exclamation points added by the festival). She’s know for her colorful costumes and upbeat, electro-pop sound–think if Icelandic superstar Bjork were made of cotton candy and kids’ clothes–so I guess she fits the bill for the whole “kawaii” thing.
The 2013 J-Pop Summit Festival will run from July 27-28 in downtown San Francisco, featuring film, fashion, exhibitions, and music. You can find more details here. And you can see Kyary Pamyu Pamyu perform in her free show at Union Square on Sunday, July 28th from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
